The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM)
by Hal Elrod

I must confess that I'd never heard of the author, Hal Elrod, before until I listened to him on an audio interview where he talked about his book, "The Miracle Morning."
I was intrigued by all the claims he made about his book being able to transform lives - and all before 8 a.m.
So I got a coy from my local public library and read it from cover to cover. I also downloaded the online resources that accompany the book and began my own Miracle Morning Makeover.
The Miracle Morning is designed to get you to begin your mornings as you mean to go on throughout the day.
It's a well known fact that if your day begins badly, it will carry on like that in the same vein. So The Miracle Morning aims to help your day begin well so that it carries on like that.
The MM consists of a routine to be followed by doing the Life S.A.V.E.R.S. These stand for:
- Silence
- Affirmations
- Visualisations
- Exercise
- Reading
- Scribing
These can be done in the order listed or changed to suit the individual.
I prefer to do the Exercise (Yoga) first because it gets me into a calmer mind frame to do the Silence.
I also like to do the Scribing last because it puts me into the right mindset to continue writing. And as a writer, this is important to me.
The book tells you to do the life SAVERS first thing in the morning, before anything else. But I do them after I've finished all my other chores for the morning (dishes, washing, cleaning,) because it's the best time for me, which I'll explain later.
The first thing that I learned was how rushed my mind is in the morning. I'm so busy thinking about everything that I have to do and how I can get it all done in a day.
Now my mornings are much calmer (in my head) which actually makes it easier for me to focus.
What I really liked about this book is that it not only tells you what you need to do, but also provides a complete step-by-step process of how to integrate it into your life, even if you don't think you have time to do it. And all the free downloadable resources really help too. They also help you to figure out what it is that you really want out of life, plus how to go about getting it.
One of the things you can download is the 30 Day Fast Start Kit which is essential to help you to get started on what you really want, not what you might currently only THINK you want.
At first, The MM seems too easy and too cheesy to be of any use. But it really does work.
Throughout the book, and on the website, there are many testimonials from current followers and there is also an online forum if you want to ask questions or read about how others are doing it, any problems they're having, and the different ways they've personalised The MM to suit their own lives.
The way I've personalised it, as I previously said, is to do the Exercise (yoga) first and the Scribing (journalling) last. I also do The MM after I've completed my chores for the morning because, as I discovered, I cannot focus properly if the dishes aren't done or if the house is dirty or the clothes aren't washed.
Also, as a writer, it's helpful to have a routine that leads me into writing every morning.
You see, one of the biggest problem that all writers have is to be disciplined enough to sit down and start writing every day. But now, thanks to The MM, I don't have to think about sitting down to write. Instead I look forward to doing The MM which calms my crazy monkey mind and leads me effortlessly into writing and also improves my focus.
I'm really hopeful that The MM will transform my life and my career and my income. So far it's working really well.
What I Didn't Like About the Book:
Parts of the book are really "salesy" and constantly try and get you to recommend the book to others or to buy another copy as a gift for someone who might also benefit from doing The MM.
There is a whole section dedicated to telling you to get an accountability partner to keep you on track. Even if the person you choose has never read the book, you can buy them a copy so that they can read it and help you. Again...salesy?
The ongoing push to get you to buy another copy of the book is annoying.
In my view, if you're not dedicated enough on your own to do something, then you're not dedicated at all.
Having said that, this is a book that I would whole heartedly recommend to anyone who wants to change their personal and/or business life and achieve much more.
And all with a calmer mind and more focus.
