Abundance Now: Amplify Your life and Achieve Prosperity Today by Lisa Nichols & Janet Switzer

I borrowed this book from my local library and all I can say is, thank goodness I didn't buy it because it would have been a complete waste of money.

Firstly, it's supposed to be written by two authors, but only one, Lisa Nichols, is telling her story throughout.

And even though it's supposed to be a self-help book about prosperity, it's more like a complete Bible Bashing all the way through because it keeps going on and on about God's purpose for us and how we should listen to what God wants us to do.

Yeesh! God, God, God, God... this is all this book drones on and on about, and all I can say about it is OMG!

Also, this book talks extensively about relationships with other people and how to make them work. It especially goes into detail about romantic relationships and how to make them last a lifetime, which is pretty poor advice from a divorced single parent, which Lisa Nicols is. And none of it was correct. It was all about the way to 'work' at a relationship to make it last. All I can say is that if it takes work, it's the wrong relationship and time to move on. And what romantic relationships have to do with prosperity, I have no idea.

Lisa Nichols also goes on and on in several places about how she was on Larry King Extra, The Secret and on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and how she's earning millions by travelling around the world, working 20 hours a day doing talking engagements. After a while, hearing about this so many times began to sound like "Me, me, me! Look at how great I am!" But I would hate to have a life like that because it wouldn't be a life at all.

I read this book to about ¾ through and by that time I'd had enough. I hadn't read anything that was helpful and it was becoming pretty clear that the author knew nothing at all about any of the subjects she was trying to give advice about.

For example, her advice about prosperity? She tells you to write out a budget and stick to it, pay off your debts as quickly as you can, and get another source of income so that you can save.

How is that advice about prosperity? It sounds like basic common sense to stick to a budget and pay off your debts. And as to getting another source of income, not everyone can do that. And it doesn't make you prosperous, just overworked.

Honestly, if I were you and you were thinking about reading this book, my advice would be to not bother.

Here is some of the nonsense advice you'll read:

"Your vision for the future of your business, project, initiative, or career, must be so clear that is excites everyone -- including you."

"I want you to see yourself standing in front of a room with everyone there celebrating you...Is it your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, your husband, your wife...Look at their faces. 'We're so proud of you; oh my God, you're such an inspiration.'"

"Eat right and shop for the best food. Move your body in ways that make you feel energized and ways that you find fun...Spend quiet time with yourself and with God."

"As we grow up, we absorb from our parents and our guardians what happiness, joy, peace, and good living look like."

"I made it possible for other African American women to become recognized and accepted in the role of transformational teacher and global change agent."

"God is the unfailing, unlimited source of all my supply."

"...I realized as an adult that I have the power to change my future circumstances through planning, working hard, and surrendering to God's plan for me."

"When you find quiet time to listen to your GPS, your 'God Placement System,' your intuition will always be talking to you."

And if that's not bad enough, this whole book is actually leading you to join one of her courses because she tries to tell you that you shouldn't go the journey alone and that you NEED her help.

So it's not really a book, it's a distribution channel designed to manipulate people to give her more money.

The book in and of itself isn't designed to help you, but to lead you to spend hundreds on her Abundance courses, because the last pages are all about her courses and how great they are.

This was a book that really, REALLY disappointed me. So much so, that even though it didn't cost me any money to read it, it cost me my time which I felt was wasted.
