I don’t know if it’s because I’m a writer or because I’m a life-long student. But I’m always studying and learning something.
For instance, I’m currently reading Stephen King’s book, “On Writing” and waiting in the wings to be read next is Robert Cialdini’s masterpiece, “Influence, The Psychology of Persuasion.” I love to dive deep into books like these.
I also own a plethora of non-fiction eBooks on writing, copywriting, persuasion, time-management, and other related topics that help me do more and achieve more.
And more and more these days, people are turning to online courses to help them learn how to be better writers.
Personally, I’ve always preferred to learn from books and eBooks, and especially eBooks because they’re instantly downloadable, so I can start reading them straight away. I learn from listening to audios too.
I learn by going through it all, taking notes, and doing the assignments if there are any.
I can take my eBooks anywhere and I don’t need the internet to use them.
Online courses need an internet connection, so you must be online, and you must log-in.
There are also videos to watch which means I can’t learn at my own pace. I also find that videos are more waffly to listen to than audios. The instructors seem to think that because you can see them, they can talk longer than they need to. I find that audios tend to stick to the point more.
And with eBooks, I can read at my own pace and take notes without having to pause anything.
With eBooks it’s easy to re-read something to make sense of it, as opposed to rewinding a recording and hoping I stop it at the right place.
I find eBooks for easier to learn from (and faster) than having to sit through a video lecture.
TBH, every video I’ve watched was a waste of time because being able to see the person speaking provided no benefit. In fact, I found it a waste of time because I had to sit and watch them as opposed to being able to read what they had to say in my own time, or go out for a walk and listen to them in an audio.
As you can see, I’m quite the advocate for learning from eBooks that I can read over and over again as many times as I want and as fast or slow as I want.
Which is probably why all my writing courses are available in eBook format.
Just look at my Monthly Challenge Writing Series. All four of these courses are in eBook format ONLY so that you can download them instantly and work through them at your own pace.
And because you don’t have to be online to use them, you can take them anywhere, even to a cabin in the woods and study them at your leisure, no internet required. No videos to sit through so you don’t have to watch someone talking to you.
eBook courses are more personal because you can dive into them on your own, and it’s a more enjoyable experience as they’re more engaging because they get to the point and you can skip parts or go back and re-read sections again.
Online courses are also much more expensive than buying an eBook.
But I guess which you prefer is a personal choice of how much you’re willing to pay and whether you prefer to sit in front of a teacher and be taught or learn on your own.
But whichever you prefer, there is always more you can be learning.
